5 Great Hotels to Book for New Year’s With Points and Miles

If you’re looking to use your hard-earned rewards points to book New Year’s Eve travel, it’s wise to do so as soon as possible. Finding hotels that still have award availability this close to the holiday can be a challenge.

Whether you’re craving the city, the mountains or a warm-weather escape, here are a few solid hotel options that were still bookable with points on New Year’s Eve when we last checked.

The Westin New York at Times Square

Of course, everybody knows the iconic New Year’s Eve party is in New York City. If you’re set on spending your NYE in NYC, we found rooms available at the Westin New York at Times Square for 60,000 Marriott Bonvoy points. That’s a pretty incredible redemption for a hotel room that was priced at over $1,100 per night in cash, especially considering its proximity to the festivities.

Hilton Whistler Resort & Spa

If you’d like to get about as far away from New York City as possible without crossing any oceans, Whistler is a great choice. Nestled in the Blackcomb Mountains in British Columbia, the Hilton Whistler Resort & Spa is a cozy, relaxing alternative to the buzzing streets of Times Square. We found several room types available from 80,000 Hilton points on New Year’s Eve.

From your room, you’re just a few minutes away from gondolas that will whisk you up the mountainside for skiing or snowboarding. Back at the property, you can enjoy a dip in the hot tub or a relaxing spa session.

Grand Hyatt Playa del Carmen Resort

If you need a sunnier start to your 2020, you could head to the Grand Hyatt Playa del Carmen Resort in Mexico. This property was still accepting award bookings for New Year’s Eve when we last checked, for 25,000 Hyatt points.

Enjoy an all-inclusive meal package that includes unlimited food and select beverages at onsite restaurants and cafes, plus room service and a minibar — along with access to fitness amenities, clubs and more. A stay here could be just what you and your family need to wrap up 2019.

Four Points by Sheraton Las Vegas East Flamingo

If you have 30,000 Marriott Bonvoy points to spend, book a room for New Year’s Eve at the Four Points by Sheraton Las Vegas East Flamingo. This is a great way to use points to get near the parties in Vegas, as this property is located just a few stoplights from the Las Vegas Strip, Convention Center and McCarran Airport.

Enjoy down-home American fare at the onsite restaurant and bar JP’s, then head to the Strip to party with 300,000 friends. You could also ride the High Roller, take a helicopter flight above the city or stay on the ground and catch a spectacular fireworks show. Whatever you decide to do, you’ll be glad to have a comfortable bed at the end of the night.

ANA Crowne Plaza Sapporo

And now for something completely different: Japan. If you’d like to be among the first to welcome 2020, head to the Land of the Rising Sun and tuck into the ANA Crowne Plaza Sapporo. This property still had limited New Year’s Eve redemption availability when we checked, for 40,000 IHG points.

Sapporo is famous for its winter festivities, making it a great destination for those who prefer things a little chillier. Head to the Hokkaido Shrine to welcome blessings for the new year, then relax with a steaming bowl of ramen before returning to your warm, cozy room.
